Just You Wait.

“I would have despaired had I not believed I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord. Be strong. Let your heart take courage. Yes, wait on the Lord” (Psalm 27:13-14).

I believe.

I believe I will see.

I believe I will see the goodness of the Lord.

I believe I will see the goodness of the Lord (over there) in the land of the living.

Without that faith, I would have despaired.

Believe or despair. Those are the choices.

There are no other alternatives.

No matter how we try to dress atheism up as a noble choice of clear-thinking people, its only logical outcome is darkness and oblivion. The only thing such a philosophy produces is despair.

The Lord’s goodness will be on full display in the “land of the living.”  This world is not the land of the living but of the dying.  The land of the living lies just over the hilltop.

It awaits the faithful.

I have fallen on my knees at the graveside of loved ones, heartbroken because I was missing them so badly.  I would have despaired but for one thing: I believed.

I believe I will see the goodness of God on full display: His promises made good, His children vindicated.  The injustices of this world righted.  The glory of God reigning. The enemy cast down. The righteous shining forever.

The day will come when every eye sees Him, every knee bows before Him, and every tongue confesses that Jesus is Lord.

I believe, so I do not despair.

Therefore, having such a faith, I will wait on the Lord.

You too?  Are you waiting on the Lord?

Yes, wait on the Lord.

Just you wait.

“Just you wait” is the cry of a kid who has been beaten up by the schoolyard bully.  He slowly gathers himself up off the ground, and through swollen eyes sees his big brother coming in the distance. He turns toward the bully and defiantly says through bruised lips, “Just you wait.”

Just you wait.  Someone is coming.

Job was beaten down and battered beyond description. And yet he knew Someone was coming. “I know that my Redeemer liveth, and at last will stand on the earth. Whom I shall see for myself, and not another.”

Just you wait.

“We know that if the earthly house of this tabernacle is taken down, we have a building from God, eternal in the heavens.”

Just you wait.

“This momentary light affliction is working for us an exceeding weight of glory far beyond all comparison.”

Just you wait.

“To be absent from the body is to be present and at home with the Lord.”

Just you wait.

“I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am there you may be also.”

Just you wait.

“We have been born again to an inheritance that is incorrupted, undefiled, reserved in heaven for us who are being kept by the power of God for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

Just you wait.

“Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous Judge shall award to me on that day. And not to me only, but also to all those who love His appearing.”

Just you wait.

“It does not yet appear what we shall be. But we know that when He shall appear, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”

Just you wait.

“This perishable must put on the imperishable. This mortal must put on immortality. This corruption must put on incorruption.  This weakness must put on power. Then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, ‘Death is swallowed up in victory.'”

Just you wait.

“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so those who sleep in Jesus shall He bring with Him.”

Just you wait.

“The Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and we shall be changed–in a moment, in a twinkling of the eye.”

Just you wait.

“We shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Just you wait.

“So shall we ever be with the Lord.”

Just you wait.

“They who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Wait upon the Lord.”

Just you wait!

Be not weary in well doing, saint of God. In due season you shall reap. If you don’t quit.

Just you wait.

  1. Joe, I am Tom Warrington ‘s sister and I attended Sandy Black’s Funeral this week. I am so glad that I found on your page what you said. What a blessing it was to me personally. I lost my husband almost five years ago and the pain is still there. Thank you for your words of comfort.

  2. I was unable to attend Sandy Black’s funeral but so glad you posted the video of her funeral. Your words brought joy in the scripture references and the refrain “Just you wait.” Thank you

  3. Dear Dr. Joe,
THANKS for sharing Mrs. Black’s service, it was a blessing!! The devil was really upset and tried to make it known, but again he lost!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are learning as we walk The Walk on this training ground. I hope that people who share their love with ones who are grieving, would share the glorious message that being in The Presence of our Almighty God, is WHAT will make Heaven worth it all…..not that God has called someone Home to fill the Garden with flowers or whatever they think that Home Going will be to make our Father happy. I KNOW that He will be joyous to have His Children with Him, but it will be He Who will be the center of attention and not me brightening up His Flower Garden!!
